"Librarians arrange books next to each other; they set limits on the numbers of books one can have, the hours in which one can have them, and the things one can do to them. Readers, by contrast, try to find new connections between apparently unrelated texts and to see more books than the rules allow; they write in the margins & tear out individual pages or steal whole books. Interesting meanings are constructed where the two interact; but their simultaneous presence always implies a struggle."

so...what are you waiting for? go & take out a book! & not off the visual bookshelf (the internet) but get into a library & feel the solid, weighty thing in your hand & smell the woody leaves of paper. Sign it out & interact with the text. Now go!

ps: thanks to my Mum & Dad for reading to me every night before bed, to my Auntie Dorothy for making sure we were well-supplied with books, and my Dad for keeping a well-stocked and easily accessible library.

{my boxes finally arrived!}

{via on blue pool road}
It feels like Christmas! I have been living out of one suitcase since June and not only was I getting tired of my clothes I was worried this lovely weather we're having was going to end before I had a proper coat and pullies to handle the chillier autumn climes. ...but after delays at customs, other 'unknown' delays, etc... my boxes finally landed on my front porch this afternoon.
While they only represent 1/4 of all my worldly belongings they do hold most of my clothes and some important books & research notes.  I feel like I'm somewhat complete again...
Yay! I need to find a way to celebrate...Perhaps a 'welcome boxes' party?

}antlers{

hello deeries/dearies,
Yes, I intentionally did the brackets backwards. I think it sort of has the look of antlers--another obsession of late. anyone who follows  me on pinterest will know that I'm slightly obsessed with antlers (click on this link for my antler board). While real deer heads on walls might be not totally pc, there is something gorgeous about the daintiness of deer. There are a variety of styles now--from rustic and classic to funky and bright, most of which are faux-taxidermy. I'll let the images speak for themselves:

I got inspired in my house to do something deer/antler-ish. I drew sihouettes of deer on some gorgeous toile paper I bought at the V&A, cut them out & pasted them up on my wall above the TV & near the fireplace:

{quotable thursdays}

Anyone who knows me knows I love books & I love libraries.
Here's a great quote from one of my favourite authors:

"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library."

Ok, I can't discuss Jane Austen without talking about Mr. Darcy. I know it's not from the book but still...a lovely image:

And check out the great 'living in' the newest Pride & Prejudice by design*sponge here. Just a couple of pics from it:

{sun is shining}

{via a colorful mind}

It has been rather wet & chilly in the past few weeks... & to be completely honest, I feel I was a little cheated of summer. It was finally getting warm in upstate New York when I left for Vancouver at the end of May. June in Vancouver was chilly-ish & a little grey...then I spent 2 glorious sunny weeks in Italy, only to find myself back in rain & grey skies in London (surprise, surprise). Then Vermont has been dealing with Irene & other tropical storms this late summer/early autumn season...but today it's sunny & warm & I'm feeling inspired by the sun.
When it's sunny I want to go for a stroll in a lovely garden:

There's just something about fancy dresses, lovely gardens, & sun.

I wouldn't mind eating outside tonight:

or grabbing an ice cream:

but I've still got work to do...so sun, please stay out for the weekend!
